GES GIVES TIMELINE FOR 2020/2021 BECE SCHOOLS PLACEMENTS

A letter dated 26 February, 2021, signed and released by Cassandra Twum Ampofo, the Head of Public Relations Unit of the Ghana Education Service (GES), from the headquarters inAccra indicated that, the schools placement for the 2020 batch will be released as soon as all processes of placements are affirmed by GES.

She mentioned that, “Out of the total of 533,693 registered candidates, 494,530 candidates qualified to be placed.”

"These 494,530 candidates who qualified for placements would have no issues with schools of their choice. Placements are done based on the results these students had when they sat for last year’s Basic Education Certificate Examination. Distribution of students to the various Senior High Schools across the country was based on the computerized school selection and placementsystem employed by the Government of Ghana to make sure students attend one of the schools of their choices to offer preferred courses", Cassandra Twum Ampofo added.

“A total of 343,264 have automatically been placed in one of their choices. However, 151, 266 qualified candidates could not be matched with any of their choices. All such students are therefore to do self-placement to select from available schools” , she revealed.

Over the yearsstudents have had issues with attending schools of their choice.

Students who could not attain grades to enroll them into Senior High Schools of their choicefinally loose interest and stop schooling after several attempts to get admitted. This computerized school placement system is to eliminate the abuse of the manual placement system and to digitalize the way students access secondary education. Students would now be able to opt for preferred schools on the system in the comfort of their homes.

“The management of Ghana Education Service wishes to assure all students, especially, those who could not be matched with their choices during automatic placement, parents and the general public that all schools with vacancies have been uploaded on the portal for students to select from during self-placement without hitches.”the letter further stated.

The letter further gave directives on how to access the online placement platform after attaining pins at the various recognized centers across the country.
